CEB implements new booking, cancellation policies

Beginning next month, Cebu Pacific (CEB) will be implementing new booking and cancellation policies where changing the name in tickets will now be allowed.

Candice Iyog, CEB's vice president for marketing, said under the new rules, in the case of voluntary or guest-initiated changes, passengers can reschedule their ticket but more than one day before departure date. This includes modifying flight, route, date of travel and name, or cancelling flights.

Involuntary flight disruptions--such as cancellations or delays by CEB--of three hours or more, meanwhile, would allow passengers to a full cash refund or they may store booking in the "Travel Fund" for future travel without penalties within 30 days.

During situations beyond the airline's control such as weather, bird-strike or closure of airports, tickets are not refundable but passengers my rebook flights without penalties as long as travel is completed within 30 days. Passengers may also store booking in the Travel Fund, but with a penalty since these disruptions are beyond CEB's control.

The new Travel Fund allows passengers to use the value of changed flights within 90 days from the date the fund is created, or to transfer the booking to another passenger. The fund eliminates the waiting time for refunds. Passengers can immediately use the stored amount for their next booking.

"The new policy and Travel Fund benefit passengers by allowing them the use of travel credits anytime within its validity period," Iyog said.

“Our low fares and improved on-time performance (OTP) led to a steady increase in passengers and their concern for convenience is an important consideration for CEB. The new business policy provides greater flexibility to passengers while retaining the advantage of very low fares,” Iyog added.

National Geographic Channel launches Big Blue exhibit in Manila

National Geographic Channel, in partnership with Ayala Malls and The Mind Museum, unveiled a life-size sculpture of the world’s biggest baby blue whale in Manila last November 17, 2009. This is the last stop of the Asian tour that aims to further public understanding of blue whales. Blue whales are the largest creature to ever inhabit the earth. Bigger than the greatest dinosaurs, they weigh up to 200 tons and extend up to 30 meters.

The Big Blue Exhibition will take visitors into the world of the magnificent blue whales. The sophisticated sculpture will be the highlight of the event. It is a life-like rendering of a nine-meter long, two-month old, female blue whale that was created by a team of professional model makers in Australia.

 Baby Blue Whale replica

The exhibition also includes expert sharing sessions, conservation and education activities, and a feature writing competition. It features never-before-seen footages from National Geographic’s groundbreaking documentary, Big Blue.

The Big Blue Exhibition will run in five different venues on the following dates:  Glorietta 5, November 17-26; Trinoma Mall, November 28-December 11; Alabang Town Center, January 4-17; Market! Market!, January 18-February 2; and Greenbelt Mall, February 3-17.

Lorie Tan of WWF

“Te National Geographic Channel is delighted to launch Asia’s first Blue Whale Exhibition in Manila, in partnership with Ayala Malls and the Mind Museum. We hope that this inspiring encounter with this majestic creature will spark imaginations and further interest in marine conservation and how oceans relates closely to the well-being of humans,” said Sonia Jackson, senior vice president for marketing and general manager for Hong Kong and the Philippines of Fox International Channel, the mother company of National Geographic Channel.

The Ayala Malls, led by Ayala Group senior vice president Marivic Anonuevo, is committed to support the National Geographic’s efforts to encourage Filipinos to care for this beautiful creature and raise awareness of marine conservation in the Philippines.

Learn from the expert

National Geographic and The Mind Museum have invited local marine mammal scientist Dr. Arnel Andrew Yaptinchay to host special sharing sessions to inspire students and visitors of the Big Blue Exhibition.

Dr. Yaptinchay is one of the volunteer scientists providing advice on some exhibits for the museum. He is involved in conservation initiatives on threatened marine species such as the whale shark, cetaceans, and dugong in the Philippines. Dr. Yaptinchay has once served as director for the Species Conservation Program of World Wide Fund-Philippines. He will share his experiences with local audiences and answer questions.

Big Blue documentary

Showing on National Geographic Channel 18 November at 7 pm, 21 November at 11 am, and 22 November at 8 pm, the two-hour Big Blue special is the first documentary to uncover the mysteries of the blue whale.

The special features never-before-seen moments in the life of blue whales, with stunning first-time footage of a blue whale calf and its mother and amazing shots of an adult blue whale singing.

Audiences will also get a unique whale’s view through an advanced technology developed by National Geographic called CRITTERCAM®, which allows unprecedented access into the animal kingdom without human interference.

This state-of-the-art research device was attached to a blue whale’s back to record footages of the animal as it travels deep into the ocean to allow scientists to study its behaviors.

Jalapeno Cantina Mexicana Gives Filipinos the Ultimate Mexican Dining Experience

Pasig City, Philippines – Located at the Foodstreet of Ortigas Home Depot Compound , Jalapeno Cantina Mexicana opened its doors to the public – April of 2009. It is fast becoming a favorite among the Ortigas Yuppies who always seek new places to unwind after a hard day’s work. Not only that, Jalapeno also has Families that frequently come in for early dinners and weekend family gatherings.

Jalapeno Cantina Mexicana is mainly a restaurant that serves authentic mouth watering Mexican cuisine that will surely satisfy anyone’s Mexican food craving. Apart from that --- Jalapeno regulars confess that they enjoy the selection of specialty Mexican cocktails, particularly the slush margaritas and dark and light Mojitos.

Filipinos are adventurous foodies, always on the lookout for something new to try. The diverse taste and love for food of Pinoys make Restaurant Industry a stable revenue contributor to the Philippine economy. For business owners such as Romeo Reyes Jr. and Rommel Ramos , putting up Jalapeno is a sensible idea since it is a specialty restaurant that aims to meet the dining requirements of customers who enjoys variety in their regular night outs. Nothing beats authentic Mexican food with hearty servings and great drinks in a fun, true to its theme atmosphere.

The menu at Jalapeno features a wide array of great Mexican food selections, made from only the freshest and highest quality ingredients carefully prepared… also considering the colors, textures and aromas that is distinctly Mexican.

Jalapeno Cantina Mexicana prides itself for having one of the best Chefs in the Metro as its General Manager --- Chef Jonah Trinidad .

“We carefully planned the menu and made necessary research to make everything authentic. Filipino customers are particular when it comes to what they like and what they don’t like. So we really have to study everything carefully in order for us to bring them the ultimate Mexican dining experience” says the young celebrity Chef.

“The menu prices at Jalapeno are very affordable. By thoroughly planning and choosing the where to get our ingredients --we were able to come out with very reasonable price point for our dishes… much lower than other Mexican restaurants around.” he adds

MI CASA ES SU CASA

Spotting Jalapeno Cantina Mexicana at the Food Street of Ortigas Home Depot is effortless. The exterior of the restaurant is tastefully designed true to its theme. The quaint and cozy appeal of the Jalapeno sets it apart from the neighboring establishments. From the darkly tainted wooden furniture, the heavy wooden doors and subdued yellow-orange painted walls --- the rustic outdoor seating area sets the mood for guests that they are in for an authentic Mexican experience.

Both for aesthetic and function , a small tequila bar with high metal and wood stools is located by the entrance. Its center piece is a dark- arched wooden display case mounted on the wall-- where different liquors used for their Mexican cocktails are showcased. Also--several small accent pieces are found on the walls and atop the bar to complete look.

The Mexican theme continues as you step inside the restaurant. The remarkably detailed interior design make foodies feel that they are in a small cantina in Mexico. The soft lighting adds up to its customary features and ambiance. The downstairs space is utilized by placing a few tables that comfortably sits a small group. Upstairs— is the main dining space of Jalapeno… wood floors and furniture plus the colorful walls and dim lighting accentuated with rustic decors are combined to maintain the theme.

You will truly appreciate the effort and attention to detail they put into designing the whole place. The homey tone and warm cozy ambiance of Jalapeno wants all guests to feel relaxed and right at home.

MUY DELICIOSO

Most get intimidated to try out Mexican food because it’s best known for its rich and very spicy flavors. In Jalapeno --- the hotness and spiciness of the dishes is up to you. Much thought and effort was given in creating the menu of Jalapeno to make the dishes as authentic yet still fit the Pinoy palate.

Jalapeno Cantina Mexicana’s menu is divided into several sections: appetizers, soups and salads, fajitas, quesadillas, enchiladas, tacos, burritos and the main course selection. Most patrons that come in groups order a dish or two from each section to sample out what Jalapeno has to offer. Guests often ask for additional servings of dishes they particularly like, afterwards. Plus the variety of dishes will surely appeal to both vegetarians and meat eaters.

The affordable price makes the experience even more worthwhile. For a hearty meal and a refreshing drink, the average tab per person would normally start at 200Php.

The Tacos and Nachos are the most popular among Pinoys. Here at Jalapeno, have a taste of the authentic Mexican taco with your choice of their scrumptious chicken or beef, salsa verde, lettuce and cheese filling served with either a warm tortilla or the traditional taco shell. Not your typical Nacho pica-pica found in most resto-bars, their tasty Mexican Nachos topped with fresh Mexican Salsa, Chili Beef, Jalapeno, Sour Cream, and Cheese Sauce is another appetizer favorite in Jalapeno.

Jalapeno’s Enchiladas, Quesadillas and Burritos have different varieties you can choose from that will surely please both vegetarians and meat eaters. The menu also indicates how mild or spicy some dishes are. If you really want it mild, you can just ask the friendly crew and they will prepare them as requested. You can also order additional flour tortillas, served in a covered container to keep it warm and fresh. And if you want more of Jalapeno’s dips and other add-ons, these are also available.

For refreshments, Jalapeno menu has a wide selection of Non-alcoholic beverages, beers, Specialty cocktails and mixers, shooters and wines that customers can choose from.

Overall--- Jalapeno Cantina Mexicana has achieved the taste, look and feel of a genuine Mexican restaurant. Filipinos can now go on an authentic Mexican food trip without leaving town.
