Rucksack Inn: Singapore's Best Backpacker Hostel

Don't let the dingy looking Chinese-herb smelling staircase fool you. Singapore's Rucksack Inn could probably be the best backpacker hostel EVER.

Ruck Sack Inn is at the 3rd floor

Located at 33-B Hongkong St., this new Singapore hostel has received several positive reviews from travelers all over the world. Room rates are relatively cheap, starting at S$26. You could choose from mixed dorm beds or private rooms. Either way, it would still be a great deal considering the place is near Clarke Quay, one of the bustling centers in Singapore. We got a 4-bed mixed dorm which we booked online several months in advance.

Entrance

Ruck Sack Freedom Wall

Just a note: there are no ensuite bathrooms, just two cubicles with powerful round overhead showers. Don't worry if you forgot to bring toiletries as there are complimentary shampoo and body gel in each cubicles. And if you don't have your own towel, you could rent one for just S$2.

Common wash bin area

If you want to relax and/or mingle with other guests, you could stay at the lounge to read books, watch cable television/dvds, or play PS2/Wii. Three computer units are available for use, free of charge. They also have free wifi in all rooms!

Real-life Big Brother House hehehe

Guitar Hero, anyone?

24/7 free internet access

In the kitchen, guests could easily make toasts and coffee/tea for free anytime of the day. I love making PB&Js even at 3am! The water dispenser is also a plus because I saved up on buying pricey bottled water.

Dining area

Butter, peanut butter, grape jelly, and Nutella are provided

I love breakfast!

BSA Suites Hotel Makati

It was a long weekend and we wanted an epic long weekend beach vacation somewhere in Batangas.

[Insert lulz story here.]

Then we ended up in a hotel room in Makati with a rooftop pool because of [insert lulz reasons here].

Browsing Agoda's online hotel reservation system, I chanced upon BSA Suites Hotel Makati. It was reasonably priced, near Greenbelt, and, as mentioned, has a rooftop pool. Astoria Plaza would've been waaaaaay better if only there were not fully booked that weekend. But then, we don't need fancy rooms because we'll all end up drunk anyway. All we want is a decent place to cook bacon/spam/eggs, drink, swim, and sleep. Quick tip: book via Agoda if you need cheap hotel accommodations. A studio room in BSA Suites starts at USD65, but we got our room for only USD45!

zomg eggs

BSA Suites is rather easy to find. Just along Palanca st., there's a bar named Toyz at the first floor and a Ministop convenience store across the building. Mercury Drugstore, KFC, Chowking, and Jollibee are also within walking distance. BSA don't serve breakfast, or any food for that matter, so having these stores nearby proves to be very helpful.

Check-in was a breeze. I just showed my printed Agoda voucher, signed some papers, and was finally handed our room key card. Within minutes, we were inside our spacious room. Of course, the first thing I checked was the kitchenette. There's a fridge, microwave oven, electric stove, water heater, rice cooker, plus several plates, pans, and utensils. Oh yey, our spam/bacon/egg breakfast will go just as planned!

I'm the one checking the fridge, haha

Tequila, Gin, Bacardi, and Ketchup not included

We already managed to trash the room. Nice.

At night, we had dinner and drinks by the rooftop pool. Surprisingly, the whole area was clean and there's a cctv camera so security guards could watch nubile girls in skimpy swimsuits for the guests' safety. We also have a kick-ass view of Makati-at-night, perfect for some bokeh <3

Rucksack Inn Singapore via Hostels.com

UPDATE: Read my Rucksack Inn review with photos here

===

I already booked a room for our Baybeats Singapore trip on August. We don't want to stay at those fancy and EXPENSIVE hotels so we had our eyes on affordable inns/hostels/guesthouses. Also, we need to reserve ample funds for vodka/beer money.

So while searching the wawawa for places near Baybeats' venue (Esplanade Drive), I came across this new place called Feel at Home. The room rates are affordable with breakfast AND free wifi! Showed it to my friend Kin, but she said it's quite far from Esplanade. She then pointed Rucksackk Inn, since it's more accessible to Esplanade Drive. After checking the rates, reviews, and their official site (it's so cuuuute!), I decided to book early via Hostels.com. A 10% downpayment plus SGD2 transaction fee are required for the online reservation. If you sign up as Hostels.com member (email address required), the transaction fee will be automatically waived.

Paid a downpayment of PHP1,568.97 <3

Our 3-night accommodation totaled PHP15,689.74 or SGD462. We got a quad-sharing private room and a space in the 28-bed mixed dorm. It's a bummer that an extra bed for a quad-room is not allowed. So one of us--that would be me--would have to share a room with 27 other strangers. Good thing the rate already includes breakfast and wifi so I guess I'll just update my Facebook while on bed. Another option is to crash inside the room when I'm already drunk so there's no need to *mingle* hihi.

I still don't know who will be this year's foreign band, but the first 8 Baybeats bands were already announced. Jesus, I really can't wait to get drunk in SG. Please be August already!
