Sushi Burrito Singapore

I feel like I'm on a roll for Japanese food reviews so here's my take on the recently opened Sushi Burrito:

Skip the sides. Go for the burrito. Try the Happy Hour Asahi promo.

That's about it....

I kid.

Photo of [a part of] the menu coming up!

Click to embiggen

Burritos sell for $10.90-$13.90 each with Grilled, Pan Fried, Sashimi, Vegetarian, and Signature Roll options. For the calorie nazis out there, you'll be glad to know that Sushi Burrito includes the calorie count in their menu (just for the burritos though). We ordered Rainbow Shrimp ($10.90) and Yummy Belly Set Meal ($12.90 for the burrito + $3.90 for drink and 1 light snack or dessert). Since the burritos are huge, the place serves it cut in half which makes it easier for the burrito to be shared with a friend.

Tokyo Ramen War: Ippudo vs Ichiran

When in Tokyo (or anywhere in Japan), eat ramen. And be sure to visit Ippudo and Ichiran if you have this thing for yummy Tonkotsu ramen.

Ippudo
106-0032 Tokyo, Minato-ku, Roppongi 4-9-11 second Odagiri Building 1F
Opening hours: 11:00am to 4:00 next day, Friday / 11:00 to 5:00, Sundays / 11:00 to 1:00 next

This was the first Ramen I've tried in Tokyo and it was sooooo good that we ate there twice. There are several Ippudo branches in Japan but we went to the Roponggi Hills branch. Twice. Ippudo's prices range from JPY 800 - 1,100 each ramen bowl while sides are about JPY 150-300. If you're a bit on the budget, check out their lunch specials for JPY 800 which includes rice, ramen, and 6pcs of gyoza.

I got the Special Shiromaru Ramen (JPY 1,050) while BB ordered the Special Akamaru Ramen (JPY 1,100). Mine was better fo sho!

Ippudo Japan Menu for your translation please

Various condiments and sauces are available, unlike in Ippudo Singapore

Ginger, Bean Sprouts, and other stuff to eat before your ramen arrives...also available for free

Free flow tea for free. Rhyming sucks.

Special Shiromaru Ramen - Tonkotsu ramen topped with special chasu, bean sprouts, scallions, egg, kikurage (tree mushrooms), and wanton.

Jollibee Singapore lah! Check out the menu!

So...

Jollibee has landed in lah lah land! Today's is the day where Pinoys will feel like a Champ and bite onto their fried chickens with such pure joy. "Gravy" lang sa haba ng Q sa Lucky Plaza! :) But it's okay because now SG-based folks can get their fix of langhap-sarap yummy goodness.

So, how much will the food cost? This is the second question that popped into my mind, the first being "will there be gravy on my Chickenjoy?"

Thanks to the people of the interwebz, here's a digital copy of Jollibee Singapore menu, with price list and all!

jollibee singapore menu price list

Sorry to disappoint but there doesn't seem to be any palabok? I haven't been to Lucky Plaza yet so I may need to update this post. Anyway, as long as there's Chickenjoy and Spaghetti, I'll be a happy jabee girl.

What about you? What's your pick?

McDonald's Singapore Twister Fries: I'm Lovin' It

Yes, it's been a while since my last post. Am I busy? Well, not really. Singapore is such a ho-hum city, if you ask me. I guess I'm not posting *that* much because I don't have my camera with me. :( I just find it really hard to tell a story without good-quality images. I need a decent digital camera but my budget cannot allow me as of the moment. For now, I guess I'll just stick to my 2-year old symbian phone for my photos.

Moving forward, I just want to say that McDonald's Twister Fries is here in Singapore. <3 But, unlike in Manila, the marketing people here didn't give much fuss over this yummy curly calorie-rich nom. No Kitchie Nadal jingle, TVCs, print ads, radio, or digital campaigns were created to promote the product.

McDo Twister Fries TVC feat. Kitchie Nadal from 5 YEARS AGO (omg)

Just add 50cents to any value meal to upgrade to a medium sized twister fries. Or you could just buy a la carte at 3.30 (Medium) and 3.45 (Large). Enjoy.

Shop and Nom at Ikea Tampines

I've been wanting to visit Ikea since I moved to Singapore but I figured it would be more fun if I wait for Cha and Kin's arrival first. So last Saturday, we visited the branch nearest to my place which is Ikea Tampines. It took us around an hour to go there because the bus wait was soooooooooooooo long.

Finally!

The first thing we did: eat hotdogs! No photos kasi gutom na gutom na kami lah. Hohohooo. We managed to nom the hotdogs in less than ten minutes because we were so excited to go inside the store.

inside Ikea Tampines

Cha and Kin gets comfy in the showroom

Dani S Cooking Show!

It's true. Ikea is a happy place. I demand a house filled with Ikea stuff! :( Kitchen, beds, fluffy pillows....I WANT THEM ALL. I wish there would be a Manila branch soon, I'm sure my mama would love it more than I do!

Bargain finds at Ikea As Is Section

Another thing that we're looking forward to is the food! I heard the chicken wings and swedish meatballs are a definite must-try here.

Meatballs

Wings

Kin and I got the 10pcs swedish meatballs (SGD6.50) which came with baked potato, gravy, and berry jam. The meatballs somehow reminded me of Jollibee's Burger Steak (or maybe I'm just too homesick? hahaha). It would have been nice though if it was mashed potato instead of the baked one. The wings, on the other hand, are just so-so. For me it was nothing special. I still prefer Wingman's version when it comes to fried wings.

By the way, you can take away the meatballs from the frozen section for SGD15 per pack (1kg). Not bad! For more information about Ikea Singapore, visit www.ikea.com.sg.

Arnold's Chicken: The Best Fried Chicken in Singapore

I've been busy these days since I moved to Singapore so I haven't been updating this blog a lot. Things are doing fine here but I definitely miss my family, friends, and mamao. :( Good thing there's Skype to keep me sane!

Anyway, I've been reading several blog posts about Arnold's Chicken. Well-known Singaporean bloggers attest that Arnold's Chicken serves the best fried chicken in the country that is why I've been meaning to try it since January. The nearest branch to my place is at City Plaza Geylang Road so we went there after our church service today.

City Plaza Mall

The five of us each got an order of Half Spring Chicken Set (SGD5.90) which comes with fries and coleslaw. If you're not the veggie person type, you could have your greens replaced with mashed potato instead. Beverage prices are between SGD1.90 (cola, teh tarik, coffee) to SGD2.70 (bottled mineral water, meh).

Arnold's Half Spring Chicken Set

After several minutes of waiting (the place was fully packed, by the way), we were served five platefuls of  fried chicken. WOW. It was HUGE compared to Max's Half Spring Chicken. Another interesting fact, no utensils were provided (except a spoon for the coleslaw and gravy) because apparently, Arnold's customers devour their yummy poultry with bare hands. Cute. Except for the fact that it's piping hot lololol. Taste wise, the chicken is very juicy with the right mix of salt and spice. It's almost like Jollibee Chickenjoy but crispier!

Arnold's Chicken has three branches at City Plaza, Hougang Green Shopping Mall, and Pasir Ris Town Park. Visit their website at www.arnoldsfriedchicken.com for branch information and home delivery.

Ristras Mexican Grill for Delivery

The great thing about working at The Fort: availability of great restaurants. One of which is Ristras Mexican Grill.

Carlos, Hannah, Trixie and I (photo by SerialTripper.com)

I love how Ristras serves their food fast yet fresh. It's also interesting how you could come up with a variety of flavors for your burrito/enchilada/quesadilla/fajitas because you could choose your own meat, rice, beans, and salsa.

mwaaaaah!

However, Ristras branches are only at The Fort and Greenhills---and these places are not very much accessible for someone residing in Manila or QC, i.e. me. Good thing Ristras is now available for delivery via 2121212 and we availed the service during my recent sleepover with friends.

Since I'll be leaving for Singapore very soon, I booked a room at Herald Suites Hotel Solana so my friends and I could drink, swim, and have a John Lloyd marathon. After swimming and lying around all afternoon, we just felt too lazy to go out for dinner. The hotel's room service menu didn't offer much so we had our food delivered instead.

Must Try: Bordeaux Premium French Wine Bar

Hey guys, I dined at Bordeaux Premium French Wine Bar and I enjoyed it.

*pause*

Okaaaaaaaaaaaaay. That doesn't sound/feel right coming from someone who finds happiness in drinking beer along Khao San's backpacker/transvestite filled street and Sampaloc's jeje/agaw-cellphone filled neighborhood. But yes, yours truly went to a place that has:

1. A name which you must google to find the correct pronunciation: \bȯr-ˈdō\
2. The word Premium
3. The word French
4. The word Wine. My body and wine don't mix well (read: heartburn)

See, I only frequent places with "Bar" on its name like this, this, this, and many more. My drinking preference makes it quite unusual for me to be seen in a French Wine Bar. It's something I'd rather skip as I'm more into a casual laid-back atmosphere. But with my recent experience, I guess it's justifiable to make Bordeaux an exception.

Bread and olive oil dip were given as complimentary appetizers. Funny, the bars I normally visit have appetizers that come in form of colorful kropecks or roasted highland legumes, i.e. mani.

The Grilled Lettuce and Beef Salad (Php320) is an unusual yet pleasant dish. Unlike salads where greens are served fresh and crispy, this one had the veggies grilled and there's tiny chunks of beef on top. Don't forget to dip 'em lettuce and cherry tomatoes in the honey mustard balsamic vinegar dressing!

Quattro Bar's Signature Dishes

Quattro Bar is not just for beer lovers. One could also go there for the food.

Gargantuan Red Horse and I beside a bibingka stand LOL

Quattro has teamed up with Unilever Food Solutions (UFS) to give loyal patrons and alcohol-loving foodies its signature dish: Japanese Chicken Adobo.

Two words: Beer Match. Love the generous portions. Love the sweet spicy sauce. Love the crispy garlic chips. And yes, I love the rice. Non-beer fanatics may opt to pair this dish with Castillero de Diablo Red Wine which is included in the set.

Meanwhile, vegetarians would be thrilled to try Quattro's Samosas. This crunchy appetizer is filled with spicy laing--a famous delicacy in the Bicol region.

Quattro's Manila Signature Dish set is definitely for spicy-food lovers so it's great to have something sweet to cool the tongue. As a finale, we were served Panna Cotta with Langka.

Quattro is located at 90 Timog Avenue, Quezon City. It's across Plaza Ibarra so it would be hard to miss. If you'll be coming with a large group, I strongly suggest calling them for reservations at 9281692. The place gets crowded as early as 10pm. We wouldn't want to wait in line for food and drinks, right? :)

Unilever Foodsolutions (UFS), being the preferred foodservice business partners among restaurateurs, felt the need to acknowledge notable restaurants who are developing Manila as a culinary city. They have partnerered with select restaurants within the metropolis in coming up with signature dishes. UFS has synergized with these restaurants, both through dish development and promotion campaign for these signature dishes, in achieving one common goal: coming up with a different culinary experiences that provide value for money and culinary memories for diners.

Must-Try: Tiyan of Ostrich at Moomba Bar Cafe

LOL Fact about me: I enrolled in ABSCBN's summer dance workshops at the age of 20.

It was a lot of fun but there's a catch: I'm I'm the oldest grape in the bunch. My classmates were just 11-17 y/os so I was automatically promoted to the level of "Ate." Harharhar. Coming from Caloocan, my usual route to class include passing by Roces Avenue to get rid of the nasty Q.Ave traffic. I vividly remember making Moomba Bar Cafe as a landmark since it sits right smack Roces and Mother Ignacia. I knew it was a bar but I was never curious to try it mainly because its exteriors give a feeling of "old." Only until recently did I find out that I've been missing out on such a good place.

couches and pillows inside Moomba

Moomba's interiors is a stark contrast of its facade. The huge and well-lit space gives guest enough privacy. The decors are comfortable and humble, providing a feeling of home for individuals who come in for much-needed break. Cha and I were completely thrilled the moment we stepped inside Moomba. "Why haven't we visited this before," we asked each other.

The 10-year cafe has recently partnered with Unilever Food Solutions (UFS) to come up with Manila's Signature Dishes 2010. Selected by Moomba's very own Chef Jimmy Jardiniano, the set highlights Tiyan of Ostrich & Julienne of Vegetables and comes with Deep Fried Fillet of Chicken with Tomato Salsa, Panna Cotta with Mango Ganache, and Castillero de Diablo Wine.

The chicken fillet appetizer provided a good start to a night of dining experience. Each fillet, although fried, are well-seasoned. The strips sat on a bed of crispy lettuce strips topped with tomato salsa. It was a well-made salsa as I could taste the flavors of lime and cilantros.

Chef Jimmy, who greeted everyone with a smile, also provided us a taste of their handmade pizzas. The thin-crusted treat is heavy on cheese rather than the toppings. This one is perfect for cheese lovers out there. I'd definitely order this with beer on my next visit.

Manila Signature Dish: Bordeaux

Bordeaux is one of the restaurants chosen by Unilever Food Solutions (UFS) to include in its roster of Manila's Signature Dishes 2010. Several dishes were handpicked from their menu to came up with a set that would best represent the restaurant's identity. Created by Chef Edward Narvaez, the set highlights Gambas ala Rochelle and Boeuf Bourguignon.

Gambas ala Rochelle

I'm thankful that unlike most people, I'm not allergic to shrimps. I'll eat them in any way that it's prepared: fried, baked, stewed, stir-fry, etc. I was delighted to find out that Gambas is in the set--being a shrimp-lover and a Bicolana, I knew this spicy dish would be a sure hit. The succulent shrimps mixed with the sweet-salty-spicy sauce makes it a perfect pair with bread or pasta. Personally, I'd like this with a steaming cupful of rice and an ice-cold bottle of beer.

Bouef Bourguignon or Beef Burgundy

Pleasantly amazing is the Bouef Bourguignon. Served over a heapful mound of pasta, the top round braised beef is tender and you can taste the earthiness of the mushrooms coupled with the rich flavors of the demi glace. I also liked the carrot timbales on the sides...even Hannah of www.flaircandy.com (who refuses to eat carrots) found it interesting.

Light and fluffy timbales

If ever you drop by The Fort Burgos Circle, make sure to visit Bordeaux Premium French Wine Bar at Unit F, Forbeswood Drive, Burgos Circle, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig. For reservations, contact 403-6554.

Manila Signature Dish: Outback Steakhouse

For those who frequent Makati malls, you'll probably be familiar with Glorietta 4's Outback Steakhouse. The mall's iconic facade has rows and rows of establishments that lures onlookers (shopaholics or not) to their den. Part of the club is Outback Steakhouse. It has become well-known for its generous portions and casual set-up making it a favorite among families, barkadas, and--in Glorietta branch--tired shopaholics.

As the name implies, Outback's specialty is in its meat offerings. Steaks make up a good portion of the restaurants's menu. One of the highly recommended is the Beef Tenderloin with Mustard Demiglace and Bearnice. The taste, as its name, is a mouthful.

Manila's Signature Dishes 2010: The Terrace at the 5th

Terrace at the 5th is a relatively young restaurant (opened in 2008) quietly tucked along Greenbelt 5's strip. A collaboration between Chef Cecile Ysmael and Chef Cheryl Pineda, the place provides a feeling of warmth and relaxation.

The Terrace at the 5th

The green interiors and high ceiling exude a homey yet classy dining ambiance

Partnering with Unilever Food Solutions (UFS), the ingenious restaurant owners handpicked the best from its menu for inclusion in Manila's Signature Dishes 2010. The roster includes Pumpkin Veloute, CCY Salad, Roast Angus Beef Belly, and Honeyed Panna Cotta.

To start, we were served the CCY Salad--rosciutto-wrapped mixed greens and rocket leaves with tomatoes in honey-mustard dressing. The orange slices and buffala cheese creates a flavorful twist to the dish.

The Pumpkin Veloute is actually a mix of pumpkin and carrot with Mantecado ice cream. Crushed walnuts and popcorn sprouts are added for flavor and texture.

Manila Signature Dish: C2 Classic Cuisine

When I resigned from my job earlier this year, I finally had the chance to stay at home because I don't have money, lol and develop a new hobby: cooking. Every night I prepared something different for my nanay and bunso--American, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, and even Thai. But our favorite would be Pinoy food because it's easier and cheaper to prepare. Sinigang, adobo, tinola, ginataan, and ginisang gulay were my most requested dish. I guess it's true that one would never go wrong with the classics.

Over at C2 Classic Cuisine Katipunan, Chef Oliver Gascon and Unilever Food Solutions teamed up to create signature dishes that would showcase the ingenuity of Pinoy restaurateurs.

Manila Signature Dishes 2010

With the theme "Redefined Filipino Classics Set", Chef Oliver Gascon gave an exciting twist to local staple items. The set include Adobong Sitaw, Crispy Ribs Sinigang, and Dory Escabeche. It comes with a plate of garlic rice, pastillas panna cotta, and a glass of Castillero de Diablo red wine.

Via Mare Bibingka Puto Bumbong Delivery

It's just days before Christmas and I already exhausted my 13th month pay. Hihi. Still, that's not a reason for me (or almost everyone else, I assume) to celebrate this festive season. Sure, I have zero balance in my account but I still have my family and friends...like a parol in my bubong.

Credits to Ade Magnaye for this amazing gif

Speaking of bubong, I suddenly had a craving for puto bumbong (labo, mehn) the other day. With no kakanin stalls within walking distance, we decided to have puto bumbong and bibingka delivered from Cafe Via Mare. I accessed my account in www.quickdelivery.ph (woot, they changed lay-out recently pala!) to view the online menu. Ordering was rather easy since you could just click the item you want to get and input the details (number of orders, name label, special requests, etc.).

An hour later, the Quick Delivery manong finally came in our office bearing nomnom goodies.

Puto Bumbong and Bibingka Delivery

I was kinda worried that our kakain would get soggy or cold on the way but I noticed that Via Mare has a special wrapper for their bibingkas. There's a foil inside to retain the bibingkas moisture and freshness...neat!

Fresh and steaming bibingka! yum!

We got both variants of bibingka--Laguna Cheese with Salted Egg (Php115) and Quezo de Bola (Php130). Via Mare's version is bigger (good for sharing) and heavier than the usual bibingka. They are generous on the toppings too, particularly the Quezo de Bola variant.

Cafe Via Mare Laguna Cheese Bibingka

Cafe Via Mare Quezo de Bola Bibingka

Puto Bumbong is my favorite since I was a kid. I find joy in watching the manangs make the puto bumbong...like how they put the purple powder into tubes and steam them in twos. Sobrang aliw!

Cafe Via Mare Puto Bumbong (Php65)

I requested for extra sugar and coconut when I ordered so we were give A LOT of them. I think they used muscovado instead of the regular white sugar. Very interesting and Pinoy indeed!

And since Christmas is the time for sharing...

Parang dinaanan lang ng bagyo <3
