SM San Lazaro Food Tasting Event

I used to visit SM San Lazaro a lot. I'm cool like that.

 Tayuman, reprezent!

Travel time from UST to Tayuman would only take 10-15 minutes. That gave us a valid excuse to have lunch, watch a movie, or play arcade games at the mall. During class hours. Hyuk hyuk. I remember Pao-Tsin being our favorite place since a dumpling meal only costs Php39. AMTHATCHEAPYES. I need my Php150 daily allowance allocated equally between transpo, food, and beer. Uhmkay?

Anyway, they recently held their first food tasting event for bloggers. <3 Oh yey Paotsin so I went there to join in on the fun!

Around 10 people attended but the food served was intended for 20 pax. No Pao Tsin, though. We had Master Siomai instead which is just as yummeh.

 Japanese Siomai and Beef Dumplings

Different varieties of dishes were served during the afternoon activity. Binalot, Inihaw Express, Lydia's Lechon, Lotsa Pizza, Tuck's Shawarma, and Kuya's Lumpiang Sariwa were generous enough to let us sample their best items! Thank joooooo for making me fat yet again! :D

Lotsa Pizza are packed with Kraft Cheese, Purefoods Meat, and Del Monte Sauce!

SINGAPORE – Universal Studios Singapore, the region’s widely-anticipated attraction in Resorts World Sentosa, has concluded its sneak peek week to rave reviews and continues its opening process with team members, invited guests and charitable organizations building up to start welcoming the public in March.

 Universal Studios Singapore Map

Located within one of the world’s most extensive and expansive tourism projects – the US$4.4 billion Resorts World Sentosa – Universal Studios Singapore will bring to life the best movie-themed attractions packed within seven zones ranging from Hollywood, Far Far Away™ to Sci-Fi City™ and The Lost World™.

As part of its staff-appreciation perks, the park’s first guests will be team members of Resorts World Sentosa, who will be the first to enjoy Universal Studios Singapore with their families from 13 March, before the park opens to the public at 8.28 am on 18 March 2010.

Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Executive Chairman of Resorts World Sentosa, said: “Universal Studios Singapore wrapped up a week of Chinese New Year sneak peeks to great reviews, and we are excited to be gearing up to take our first guests on the rides, which are naturally the highlight of the park. This is the region’s only Universal Studios theme park, and it will be a tourism crown jewel for not just Singapore, but Asia as a whole.’’

Mr. Tom Williams, Chairman and CEO, Universal Parks & Resorts, said: “We are thrilled to be taking the next step toward a grand opening, and we are excited that, at Universal Studios Singapore, guests from throughout the region will get to experience the excitement and adventure our parks are so well known for around the world.”

Ticket sales for Universal Studios Singapore’s soft opening phase will begin at 9 am on 10 March. Tickets for the preview phase must be purchased online at www.rwsentosa.com, or via phone bookings at +65 6577 8899. Tickets can also be purchased for future dates only at the ticket booths from 9 am to 6 pm daily at Universal Studios Singapore. Limited tickets will be offered during the soft opening. Travel to an era when entire Pharaoh’s tombs were discovered—and their terrible curses unleashed. Take the path of a daring archeologist as you unravel the cryptic riddles of the Sphinx in this sand-swept land. Quench your thirst at the Oasis Spice CafĂ©™ or shop for Egyptian treasures at Carter’s Curiosities™. Ultimately, experience the Revenge of the Mummy™ attraction, an expedition where you will be sure to have the time of your life.

5. The Lost World™: Universal fans will be delighted to visit two distinct but familiar themed areas: Jurassic Park™ and WaterWorld™. Jurassic Park, a theme park within a theme park, is based on Steven Spielberg’s classic epic adventure films. Visit the jungles of a Costa Rican rainforest where you will experience Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure™, a river ride that follows an escapade amidst the dense tropical forest where dinosaurs have been brought back to life. At WaterWorld™, watch death defying stunts that only Universal dares to execute, based on the hit film, “WaterWorld”. Explosions of fire and water will excite the audience with thrills and spills.

6. Far Far Away™: Visit the fantasy world of the Oscar-winning DreamWorks movie “Shrek”. Movie stars, talking donkeys…the land of Far Far Away showcases the lifestyles of the rich and fairy-taled. 7-Eleven's 7-Election will allow us to drink juice from a Dick...Gordon Gulp® Cup!

This coming election, Filipinos can have a drink and vote with it, too.

Beginning March 10, 7-Eleven Philippines will be giving the entire Filipino nation a voice in the upcoming Presidential elections through the 7-Elections.

"7-Eleven in the USA first conducted this in 2000 and has run for three consecutive elections," explains Jose Victor Paterno, President and CEO of Philippine Seven Corporation, Philippine licensee of 7-Eleven stores. "Partnered with two of the most prominent news networks in the U.S., CNN and USA Today, the informal polling was able to provide the public with daily and weekly poll results."

While the poll may be informal, evidence from its U.S. precedent revealed surprisingly accurate results—revealing a one to two percent discrepancy between actual numbers from U.S. Voters versus 7-Election participants. In the same vein, the local 7-Election is set to provide Filipinos a fun and informal Presidential polling platform that not only makes it more accessible for the voting public to make their voices heard, but introduces the concept of choice and responsible voting to a wider demographic.

Locally, 7-Eleven hopes to highlight the Filipino's Presidential options by making sure that all the Presidentiables--the top five, namely  Manny Villar, Joseph Estrada, Richard Gordon, Noynoy Aquino, and Gilbert Teodoro alongside fellow candidates Jamby Madrigal, JC de Los Reyes, Nicanor Perlas, Eddie Villanueva, even the voter's right to abstain, are represented. The idea is to engage the greater public in this national initiative anchored on the value of freedom of choice and underscore the importance of responsible voting.

"For the duration of the campaign, anyone who wants his vote to be counted can just visit any 7-Eleven store and pick up a 16oz Gulp® Cup that bears the colors and image of their Presidential bet. And we're making it easier and accessible for Filipinos to let their voices be heard by making it available in over 450 stores.“ he explains.

To ensure the veracity of each vote, each Presidentiable is assigned a specific barcode, which 7-Eleven cashiers will scan upon purchase of your Gulp® cup.  All votes are carefully audited and may be verified online at www.7-election.com.ph where the public can also view updates on detailed polling results, to give the public regular updates on the Presidential race. Voters may even share their vote thru Facebook.

"This has the potential to provide a pulse on the upcoming National elections. Our strong network of over 450 stores caters to Filipinos from all walks of life and may offer a good indication of how the real elections will turn out," ends Mr. Paterno.

And because Every Gulp® Counts! Filipinos can literally drink to their candidate.

F*ck Art Let's Dance at Manila Contemporary

F*ck Art, Let’s Dance will stubbornly insist that it has no central theme. But we all know a non-theme is a theme in itself. Its attempt to dichotomize an artist’s life into art=work and dance=fun is, in fact, an allusion to a rebellion against the drudgery of careers, crappy salaries and 9-5 jobs. This exhibit is Kiko Escora’s answer to post-monotony revelry, as the artists temporarily “surrender” their art in its respective space to make way for the much-deserved night of mayhem. “F*ck art (for now), and let’s dance the night away.” -- that’s what it really says.

This exhibit marks the foray of these fourteen young artists into the formal gallery system. It is also the first time for a gallery to host an exhibit for Manila’s underground fashion and music scene.

The exhibition will kick off with a party with bands BEE EYES, Pedicab and Taken By Cars, and DJs Gigee, Chie Castaneda and The Diegos – an opening night unlike any other among Manila’s established galleries.

Contemporary metal wall art. Wall Sculptures by Ash Carl

Participating artists, all handpicked by Kiko Escora, include Sharon Atillo, Shahani Gania, Raena Avella, Otto Terapen (RETARDO), Nixon Marquez, Merryloo, Marvin Tojos, Leah Castaneda, Julius Valledor (BEE EYES), Jujin Samonte, Chris Yniguez, Chi Kotur, Cameron Clark and CHI CHI (BLACK BOOK DESIGN/KST).

The Upset: Young Contemporary Art

F*ck Art, Let’s Dance opens on Friday, 12 March 2010 at 6pm in Manila Contemporary.
The exhibition will run until 19 March 2010. Manila Contemporary is located at Whitespace, 2314 Pasong Tamo Extension, Brgy. Magallanes, Makati City. For inquiries about the exhibition, please contact Sidd at 844 7328 or email to s.perez@manilacontemporary.com.
