Russian Film Festival 2010 Screening Schedule



To commemorate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of the Philippines on June 2, 2011, a festival of Russian films will be presented at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) on March 16-20, 2010 and Onstage, Ayala Center, Cebu City on March 26-27, 2010. A photo exhibit will also be mounted for the duration of the festival to commemorate Soviet Union's victory in World War II.

The event is a presentation of Mosfilm Studios, Russia’s biggest filmmaker, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Russian Federation, Film Development Council of the Philippines, the CCP and the Philippines-Russia Friendship Society.   Five classical and contemporary films produced by Mosfilm will be screened: Ward No. 6, Vanished Empire, The Star, Mirror, Agony.

2010 Cinevita Film Festival at UST

The UST Varsitarian, the country’s premier Catholic campus paper, will screen internationally acclaimed films “Kinatay” and “Lola” at the 2010 Cinevita Film Festival on March 4 at the Thomas Aquinas Research Complex Auditorium (TARC), UST, España, Manila.

On March 3, Cinevita will open with award winning films “HungHong Sa Yuta” (Gawad Urian best picture nominee) “Sanglaan” (2009 Cinemalaya entry), “Last Supper No. 3” (2009 Cinemalaya best film), “Dinig Sana Kita” (Toronto Film Festival entry), and the documentary “Demographic Winter” at the Rizal Conference Hall, St. Raymund’s Building.

At the gala on March 4, Lola and Kinatay will be shown after which Thomasian film maker Brillante Mendoza, 62nd Cannes Film Festival Best Director, together with invited cast members of the two movies, will answer questions from audience during an open forum.

The event is open to the public and admission is free.

Cinevita, coined from the words cinema and “vita” (life), upholds the cinema as tool for the meaningful expressions of life. It is a non-profit and an educational endeavor of the Varsitarian.

Free Basic Mountaineering Seminar at ROX

To promote the Philippines as an ideal ecotourism destination, Recreational Outdoor eXchange (ROX) will host a FREE Basic Mountaineering course on December 14, 2009 (Monday). The 3-hour seminar will start at 7pm and will be held at ROX CORE, Bldg 1 Bonifacio High Street. Aside from discussing basic rudiments and skills of travel and backpacking, the presentation will also stress  key concepts in safety and environmental awareness.

Australian Filmfest 2009 Manila & Cebu Screening Schedule



Six critically-acclaimed films from Australia are set to hit select cinemas in Manila and Cebu as the Australian Embassy presents its 7th Australian Film Festival in the Philippines from 5-14 November.

Experience Australian film excellence and learn more about Australia’s popular culture, history and contemporary values with award-winning films The Black Balloon, Unfinished Sky, The Hard Word, Garage Days, Danny Deckchair and The Bank.

The Black Balloon director, Elissa Down, will visit Manila to conduct artist talks at the University of the Philippines Film Institute on 5 November, 4:30 pm and at the Mowelfund Institute on 7 November, 10:00 am.

The festival is presented by the Australian Embassy, Screen Australia, and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in cooperation with the Ayala Malls Cinemas, Greenbelt and Ayala Center Cebu. Free Robotics Workshop at MOA



Pinoy Robot Games Foundation will conduct a free robotics workshop on October 23-24, 2009 at the Music Hall of SM Mall of Asia. The 2-day seminar coincides with the 2009 National Robotics Competition: Agribots in the City.

Renowned Filipino Filmmakers through the lens of Oscar Orengo

Instituto Cervantes, in celebration of the 8th edition of Película, launched a photo exhibit featuring several fundamental figures of the contemporary Philippine cinema last October 6, 2009 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).


Brilliante Mendoza

Dubbed as “Eksena: Mga Sineastang Pilipino (Filipino Filmmakers),” the exhibit displays the work of renowned Spanish photographer Oscar Orengo. On display are photographs of 44 Filipino directors and actors. Top-billing the exhibit are photos of award winning and renowned local directors like Peque Gallaga, Jose Javier Reyes, Eddie Romero, Joel Lamangan, Maryo J. delos Reyes, Brilliante Mendoza and Jeffrey Jeturian. The younger directors such as Erik Matti and John Torres are also included.
