Afternoon Tea at Erawan Tea Room Bangkok

If you're in Thailand for a vacation, I strongly encourage you to drop by Erawan Tea Room by Grand Hyatt Bangkok. My friends and I visited the place during our recent trip and we loved EVERYTHING about it!

We came in around 3pm...just in time for the Afternoon Tea Set or High Tea.

Afternoon Tea Menu

Erawan Tea Room is owned by Grand Hyatt Hotel. However, the restaurant is located in the 2nd level of Erawan Bangkok--a boutique mall which houses luxury brands such as Burberry, Coach, Issey Miyake, among others.

Inside, the place is spacious and gives off a cozy atmosphere. Guests may opt to sit in beautiful wooden chairs or soft velvet couches. There weren't too many people when we came in. Not sure if that's usual, but we enjoyed having the place *almost* to ourselves.

Drinks are inclusive the set and you may choose between tea, coffee, or juice. We got iced coffee (cappuccino and latte) to go with our meal as we're not the tea-drinking types. Meh.

Our drinks came with a small bottle of simple syrup, allowing us to adjust the sweetness of our coffee. By the way, the glasses were so huge that it could pass for a venti!

Our food were finally served and our reaction was, "WOW." Satays, dumplings, spring rolls, chocolates, jams, and fresh fruits were beautifully arranged in lotus designed plates. Seems rather "heavy" for an afternoon snack.

My favorite would be the Por Pia Gong (Deep Fried Prawn Spring Rolls)! The prawn is fresh and it came with a sweet and sour chili dip that's very different from our local version. It has a balance of sweetness and spice, which I really like. The Khao Niew Mamuang (Mango with Sticky Rice), although a common dish, is still a must try! The sweetness of the ripe mangoes marries the slight saltiness of the rice, so make sure to leave room for this one! I also found the Satay Moo (Pork Satay) and Kratong Thong (Chicken, Prawns and Corn in Crispy Basket) enjoyable. Sadly, Tod Mun Pla Krai (Deep-fried Fish Fritters with Cucumber) and Kari Puff Sai Gai (Thai Style Chicken Curry Puff) didn't excite us as much. Cucumber and basil overpowered the taste of the fritters while the curry puff doesn't have enough curry feel on it. Good thing there were Mini Chocolate Tarts with specks of edible gold! SERIOUSLY.
