Studio Planet Jupiter Dance Classes

In preparation for my SG-KL-BKK trip, I'll be dedicating November 2010 for dance lessons.

I badly need to shed off some a lot of weight caused by excessive drinking, emotional eating, blog events, and bumming around. Meh. Lord Google led me to studio along Jupiter Street Makati that offers dance workshops for Php1,800 a month. The fee includes enrollment in all classes: basic/intermediate/master hiphop, jazz basic, and jazz funk. Grabe lang, ang mura! I just don't like the schedule though..it starts really really early, which means I have to be at work earlier so I could take the classes I want.

HIP HOP
- Beginners class Monday,Wednesday, Friday 6pm-7pm
- Beginners-intermediate class Tuesday 5.30pm-6.30pm and Saturday 4pm-5pm
- Masterclass Saturday 5pm-6pm

JAZZ BASIC
- Tuesday 6.30pm-8pm

FUNKJAZZ:
- Friday 7pm-8.30pm, Saturday 6pm-7.30pm

Aside from dance, Planet Jupiter also offers boxing and martial arts classes. The good news is, I could take a boxing class for only Php100/session since I'll be enrolling in a one-month dance program (note to self: print photos of frenemies so I could punch their faces while training).

BOXING
- Daily, 7am onwards

BRAZILIAN JIUJITSU
- Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 8pm-10pm

FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS
- Friday 8pm-10pm
- Saturday 9am-11am
- Sunday 7.30am-9.30am (special class)

Cha, Jackie, and I will start classes on Tuesday. I NEED TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

No Drama in Cervical Cancer

It was a themed event. 50s, to be exact. After an hour of looking for a suitable outfit, I gave up and decided to just go with jeans, a simple floral top, cardigan, and a 4-inch black heels that could poke a hole in your skull. Come 7pm, I arrived at Melo's fresh and "baskil" free, thanks to my mother who lovingly dropped me off the site. <3

Baskil

Minutes later, I found myself seated with Flow, Ohmski, Sire, and Bernie. A server approached immediately and politely asked how I prefer my steak served. "Well done," I answered, as my eyes search the room for familiar faces. A white projector screen waited infront. Old music hummed in the background. Pleasantries were exchanged between tables while plates of starters were being served. It was a typical press conference setting. Or so we thought.

I almost spilled soup on my shirt when a bellowing voice came from one of the tables. A man, who was at about his 20s, welcomed us to the birthday party of his wife Jennifer. How he delivered his speech was a dead give away--he is a thespian. I knew then that this won't be an ordinary event so I braised myself (and my bowl of soup) for the impending show.

With the steaks served, the party officially begun. Guests anticipated the celebrant's arrival until a shocking truth was revealed--Jennifer died, everyone is a suspect. In mere seconds, Melo's was turned into a stage. The interesting set-up made the bloggers curious and entertained at the same time. As the night progressed, more characters were revealed: a devious mother-in-law, the envious sister, the sneaky ex-lover, a discreet best friend--all being probed for Jennifer's untimely death. A single question lingered in everyone's mind: "Who Killed Jennifer?"

After dialogues and punchlines were thrown from either corners of the room, the question was finally answered. Jennifer was a victim of a serial killer--the cervical cancer.

The Clock is Ticking

World Health Organization (WHO) says that there are 510,000 new cervical cases annually worldwide, making it the second biggest cause of female mortality, next to breast cancer. Locally, there are 7,277 estimated new cervical cancer cases per year, with 12 women dying daily from the disease. These are just some information shared to us by a GlaxoSmithKlein Philippines' resource speaker during the event.

What Causes Cervical Cancer?

Cervical Cancer is usually caused by a chronic and persistent cancer-causing type of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection. Presently, there are 200 known types of HPVs, 15 of of which are said to be cancer-causing. Prevalent among Filipinas are HPVs 16, 18, and 45.

Detection

Pre-malignant lesions in the cervix may be detected and diagnosed before becoming malignant. Visual Inspection of the cervix with Acetic Acid (VIA) and Pap Smear would help identify these lesions. Yearly Pap Smear tests are recommended for women who have already engaged in vaginal intercourse. Non-sexually active individuals, on the other hand, may start Pap Smear tests at the age of 35.

Stop the Killing

As the saying goes, prevention is always better than cure. Cervical Cancer Vaccines are now available to prevent women from falling victim to this serial killer. In the Philippines, women ages 10 and above may now avail of a cervical cancer vaccine at around Php8,000. Three shots within a period of six months are all it takes to guard yourself from cervical cancer causing HPVs. Consult with your OB-Gyn for more information about this vaccine or visit http://www.gsk.com.ph/cervarix.html.

Del Monte dares you to Eat. Drink. Run. (Be FIT!)

I'm Dani, your typical Payat-Taba girl T_T

It's a struggle for most people to lose weight and Del Monte Philippines recognized the need to solve this problem by coming up with a health campaign dubbed "Dare to be Fit 'N Right." It emphasizes the importance of fitness by:

1. Encouraging people to EAT and DRINK healthy food products,
2. organizing healthy lifestyle activities such as fun RUNs and
3. introducing a new and effective way to Be FIT.

To formally launch the campaign, a bloggers event was held last October 23 at Taste Asia SM MOA. Good thing I signed up because sports scientist/master coach/ultimate hunk Jim Saret was there to give a lecture on Fast Intense Training (FIT), a workout strategy that enables one to burn at least 400 calories in a span of only four minutes.

LOSE 400 CALORIES IN 4 MINUTES!
LOSE 400 CALORIES IN 4 MINUTES!
LOSE 400 CALORIES IN 4 MINUTES!
LOSE 400 CALORIES IN 4 MINUTES!

Need proof? Here's the video:

FIT is touted as the most effective way to burn fat. OMG.

During the demo, I thought, "Hey, that looks do-able."

Next thing I knew, I was already doing push-ups infront of everyone. Meh.

Zoom in and LOL at my face plsz

Argonaut made it seem so easy :(

Coach Jim also noted in his lecture that exercise alone is not enough to keep one fit. Proper diet should always be an essential part of the process. It's necessary to cut down on fatty foods and increase intake of vegetables and fruits. Healthy juices such as Del Monte Fit 'N Right also help as it contains L-Carnitine, a natural substance that speeds up the body's ability to burn calories and fats.

TIP: Drink Fit 'n Right 2 hours before exercise to speed up your metabolism!
