Manila Job Hunting Tips

An "ideal job" is not something that would miraculously present itself to you. Finding it is a quest that requires an appropriate mix of effort, patience, and skills. How would you stand out from a handful of applicants who are more experienced, educated, and better-looking than you? What would it take to hear the sweet words, "Congratulations, we like to offer you the job"? Below are some job hunting tips, if you need any.

1. A Kick-ass yet Professional Resume

- Putting your favorite Friendster photo in your resume, though tempting, is not recommend.
- Your gorgeousbabe13@web.com email address? Change that to something appropriate. Remember, you want to get the attention of the boss, not some random sex offender.
- Highlight your qualifications in a detailed yet brief way. Nobody likes to read a 5-page single spaced resume.
- Check your spelling and grammer grammar.

2. "Are you free tomorrow for an interview?"

- Be honest. Tell the employer if you can make the schedule or not.
- Prepare! Search online for commonly asked questions during interview, write down your answers, and practice saying it out loud. THIS REALLY REALLY REALLY WORKS.
- Dress appropriately i.e. no jeje cap.
- Arrive 10 minutes prior your scheduled appointment.
- Bring copies of your resumes with you.
- FLAUNT YOUR PERSONALITY. Your kick-ass yet professional resume already got you halfway the quest. Employers need to see WHO YOU ARE. Be confident, think of your answers carefully, speak slowly, and please, don't piss on your chair.

3. "Do you have any questions?"


- These 5 words are very important. For chrissakes, don't tell the interviewer "I don't have any."
- There are a lot of online resources that could help you draft appropriate questions to your interviewer.

4. Say "Thank You"


- After the interview, it's a nice gesture to send a Thank You email. Sincerely show your gratitude and tell them that you are looking forward for their positive feedback.

5. Wait


- Be patient
- Pray
- If you get the job, YEY!
- If you don't get the job, to pls don't go emo. :( Reflect on what possibly went wrong and see how you could improve on your next quest.

Canon Photomarathon 2010 Philippines Registration

Ready your cameras (and your fast internet connections) on Monday, October 25 2010! The online registration for Canon Photomarathon Philippines 2010 will start at exactly 1:30pm. From experience, the slots get easily filled up and the site even crashes at some point (think Cebu Pacific promo fares) because every shutterbugs want to be included in this fun event!


Things you should know about the Canon Photomarathon Philippines 2010:

1. It will happen on November 6, 2010. The base center will be at SMX Convention Center, SM Central Business Park, Pasay City
2. Successful registrants must be at the SMX at 6:30am. It will be a whole day event, ending around 11:00pm.
3. Like last year's competition, there will be a DSLR AND Digicam category. Only Canon users may register for the event
4. REGISTRATION IS FREE. Heck, EVERYTHING IS ACTUALLY FREE--food, participant kit, venue. Woot! There will even be games and raffles at night. Last year, the photomarathon event was held at Tagaytay Convention Center and Canon Philippines even provided several tourist buses for the participants to use. Awwww, thanks Canon Marketing Phils. Tiger Airways to begin Manila route on October

In addition to its DMIA Clark terminal, Tiger Airways will begin its Singapore-Manila route at NAIA Pasay beginning October 31, 2010.

Saw the note on their official Facebook page:

"Tiger Airways has been awarded rights to serve Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from Singapore. This is in addition to Tiger’s current 9 weekly flights to Clark’s Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA)."

To celebrate this feat, Tiger Airways is having a seat sale today until August 25, 2010. Promo fares start at S$55 plus taxes for travel between October 31, 2010 to July 31, 2010.

What can you buy with Php100?

For me, it would either be:

A. 4 bottles of beer (330ml), deposit not included
B. 3 for 100 ukay-ukay items
C. 2 Pirated DVDs =p

So when I recently visited the Robinsons Galleria All-Out Clearance Sale 2010, I challenged myself to look for cool items priced at Php100 and below.

My first stop was Best Sellers bookstore, located at the 4th level of Galleria. Various hardbound titles on Advertising, Sales, Finance, Medicine, Parenting, etc. are being sold at up to 70% off the tag. Definitely a real bargain for readers and collectors alike.

JAC Liner Bus has FREE WIFI!

Great news to south bound passengers! JAC Liner Inc, one of the largest bus companies in the Philippines, is now offering onboard Wifi on all Biñan and Balibago routes! 2010 Cinevita Film Festival at UST

The UST Varsitarian, the country’s premier Catholic campus paper, will screen internationally acclaimed films “Kinatay” and “Lola” at the 2010 Cinevita Film Festival on March 4 at the Thomas Aquinas Research Complex Auditorium (TARC), UST, España, Manila.

On March 3, Cinevita will open with award winning films “HungHong Sa Yuta” (Gawad Urian best picture nominee) “Sanglaan” (2009 Cinemalaya entry), “Last Supper No. 3” (2009 Cinemalaya best film), “Dinig Sana Kita” (Toronto Film Festival entry), and the documentary “Demographic Winter” at the Rizal Conference Hall, St. Raymund’s Building.
