FUNK STYLES: Locking

The first of all the street dance styles in this era, Locking is the ultimate expression of funk music, the derived and improvised form of Jazz, fused with soul, which was created by the legendary and late James Brown in 1969. Locking is a highly energetic style of dance, which is funky, fun and suitable for both adults and kids. Having its roots in soul dance, locking is full of groove and enjoyable to learn. This class focuses on the style made famous by the original Lockers and the near accurate techniques, which the group created. The following will be taught in the Locking class; soul dance, Locking attitude and groove, basic bounce, the lock, points, pace, funky walk, wrist rolls, scooby doo, skeeter rabbit, stop n go, scoot-bot, iron horse, leo walk, and so on.

Levels:
Locking 1 Intro & Basic Moves
Locking 2 Signature Moves

NEW STYLES: New Jack Swing/Rap Dance/Hype Style

The New Styles classes are basically a fusion of different Hip Hop styles based on the taste and interpretation of the teacher. It is a fun and highly energetic class which is more geared towards routines and choreography, similarly to what is seen in most popular hip hop music videos. Different types of New Styles available in our classes are street Jazz, LA styles, Lyrical Hip Hop and R&B get downs. This class is suitable for adults with an adequate basic in dance.

KIDS JAM

Introduces children to movement, music and rhythm, as well as body discipline and awareness. The courses are designed to develop appropriate skills for the particular age groups. Emphasis is placed on fun and the development of positive self-esteem as the child enters one of his or her earliest classroom situations.

JAZZ

An African-american dance tradition which began in the late 1800s. Its history is closely linked with the history of Jazz music. The emphasis is on self-expression, and thus, the style continually changes based on the interest, situation and personal preference of the dancer. Older forms of Jazz dance includes Tap, swing, and other vaudeville dance styles. The present Jazz style has more of ballet techniques and a lot of personality. It is an all-time favourite american classic.

Levels:
Jazz 1 Basic
Jazz 2 Intermediate

CARDIO JAM

A dance based fitness program aimed toward building a cardio workout. Class start slowly, build in intensity and end with a “burst” (so you can really push yourself because you know a “resting” segment will come up next). The movement diversity combined with the tempo variations are sure to keep you motivated and challenged.

STRETCH & TONE

It's a safe (workout) and helps develop more physical balance. This class also aims to develope muscles used in dancing as well as building strenght, flexibility, agility and core conditiong. A good class to start before going to the different dance classes.
