Eastwood 3D Cinema is Now Open

Entertainment complex Eastwood City takes cinematic experience to another notch as it opens its first ever Digital 3D Cinema.

During the recent media launch, Eastwood City key persons welcomed everyone in the unveiling of the new theatre in a special advanced screening of "Shrek: Forever After." Representatives from Solar Entertainment group and United International Pictures were also present to congratulate Megaworld Corporation's latest feat. Local celebrities with the likes of Kris Aquino, Baby James, and Gab Valenciano graced the event as well.

Using the Christie Solaria CP2230 Digital Cinema Projector--the brightest digital cinema projector in the Christie Solaria series--Eastwood’s new Digital 3D Cinema allows viewers see a clearer image from every seat in the house. This state-of-the-art technology cinema has a seating capacity of 215, with tickets selling at Php350.00 per, drink and popcorn included.

My First Bangkok Food Trip

I love Bangkok, Thailand despite its close resemblance to Philippines' humid weather. I love the culture, the shopping centers, the cheap beers, and most of all, I love the FOOD. I could eat Thai food forever. Nom nom.

Say hello to the evil Pad Thai

We arrived BKK at midnight and checked-in at around 1am in Green House, Khaosan. After unpacking our stuff, I invited my friend Sheila to go out for a late dinner. Ian, Lai, and Roi were too tired to go out so they already slept. WHATTALOSE.

Walking along the streets, we saw a Pad Thai stall and decided to try it out. Upon placing our order for one Chicken Pad Thai (BT60), a weird conversation started:

Vendor: Mild or Spicy?
Sheila and I  (in gleeful unison): SPICY!
Vendor: Are you sure, spicy?
Sheila and I: Yes!

Chuckling, the vendor proceeded in making our order. I was surprised by how easy she cooked the noodles! In less than 5 minutes, we were served our first ever authentic Thai street food.

We excitedly dug in our Pad Thai (we ate it at the stall) then immediately realized the vendor's point. It was very delicious but gaddemit, IT WAS REALLY REALLY REALLY SPICY. It literally brought us to tears. Lol. The lady vendor laughed at us (in a nice way) as we eat her painfully delicious Pad Thai.

Afraid that our tongues will burn out, we  went to the nearby 7-Eleven to get drinks. I felt like a kid in a candy store because I found items that not sold in our local convenience stores. They are priced cheap too!

In the morning, we visited Wat Pho, Wat Arun, and the Grand Palace. These temples are close to each other so you could either walk or ride a tuk-tuk. We chose the former because we want to experience the streets of Bangkok. Just like in the Philippines, it's also filled with vendors selling hats, statues, toys, cds (pirated ones, yes!), and other trinkets. Of course, there were an abundance of food.

Big Sky Mind: Drinks, Food, Music

Anywhere with cheap beer/food and good crowd + music should be considered a great place. An example would be Big Sky Mind in Quezon City. It's been around for quite some time (1999, to be exact) so don't be surprised to see crowds in their mid-30s especially during weekdays. It's a place where you could relax with a cold bottle of beer after a long tiring day at work. Please, don't expect a fancy place, hotel-like restroom, or speedy service. Go to Encore or something.

Big Sky Mind: Since 1999

Going there early, say 7pm, would only disappoint you as you will be greeted by a CLOSED sign. The staff usually come in at around 8:30-9pm so it's safe to drop by at that time. It stays open until 5am, Tuesdays-Sundays.

Upon entering the 2-storey bar, you'll see several chairs, tables, bar stools, and fluffy couches. If you have sensitive skin, stay away from the couch else you'll end up with red spots all over your arms. Well, not really. But I hope you get the idea.

When the place is not packed, a staff will come up to you with a menu in hand. During gig nights and/or weekends, just go straight to the bar area and get your order directly from the bartender. Shouting could also be an option. Local beers cost around Php35 to Php50 a bottle which is really really cheap compared to Makati bars, even Cubao X. Non-beer drinkers, on the other hand, should not worry because Big Sky has an extensive reasonably-priced cocktail & shooters menu--including Absinthe. Yeah. The Green Fairy.

Boho Av, Adobo Magazine to use local indie films for Cervical Cancer advocacy

Coming this weekend is a unique festival-slash-night market that is bound to be the hippest and trendiest place in the metro. Boho@8th Avenue or Boho Av., located in Bonifacio Global City Taguig, is a collaboration of like-minded people who appreciate art, coffee, and concepts. It's a venue that will showcase Filipinos' innate creativity through entertaining street shows, bazaars, and galleries.

Joining Boho Av's opening is local advertising resource publication Adobo Magazine, with its first ever Adobo@night Film Festival to be held at the On Cue Roving Studio. Set on April 23-24, 2010, the event features award-winning independent films and a decade-full of advertising reels, all carefully handpicked by some of the country's industry heads.
